SALTIMBANCO comes TO CLEVELAND for the first time
FOR SIX shows ONLY
at the WOLSTEIN CENTER JANUARY 29 – FEBRUARY 1
Cleveland – November 2, 2007 – Saltimbanco comes to Cleveland for the first time ever. Saltimbanco will be playing at the Wolstein Center at C.S.U. for six (6) shows only, from Tuesday, January 29 to Friday, February 1, 2008.
After travelling the world and playing in more than 74 cities on five continents since its conception in 1992, Saltimbanco is embarking on a tour of more than 40 arenas across Canada and the United States. iShares® is the proud sponsor of the Saltimbanco U.S. tour.
Saltimbanco belongs to the emblematic style of Cirque du Soleil—a signature Cirque du Soleil show with a style that borrows from theatre, dance and music and where spectacular costumes, lighting and make-up take pride of place.
Full of colour, amusement and amazement, Saltimbanco is a fun show for the whole family to enjoy, a great outing for everyone!
The show
Saltimbanco—from the Italian "saltare in banco," which literally means "to jump on a bench"—explores the urban experience in all its myriad forms: the people who live there, their idiosyncrasies and likenesses, families and groups, the hustle and bustle of the street and the towering heights of skyscrapers. Between whirlwind and lull, prowess and poetry, Saltimbanco takes spectators on an allegorical and acrobatic journey into the heart of the city.
Saltimbanco is a characteristic Cirque du Soleil show inspired by the urban fabric of the metropolis and its colourful inhabitants. Decidedly baroque in its visual vocabulary, the show's eclectic cast of characters draws spectators into a fanciful, dreamlike world, an imaginary city where diversity is a cause for hope.
The production features 47 artists, about 15 of whom were part of the show's last big top tour. The cast hails from Canada and 19 other countries.
An intimate arena setting
The most significant change came with the reengineering of the stage, making it lighter to transport and to put up and torn down to accommodate a fast paced tour like Saltimbanco's. Without changing its size, the stage on which the artists perform was raised, and the sound and lighting were adjusted to reflect the venue's size and the stage's different position within it. Saltimbanco can now be presented to 4,000 to 5,000 spectators every night with the same feeling of intimacy as under the big top
